PT Servo Lintas Raya to Reduce Coal Volume at Intermediate Stockpile KM 36

Upaya PT Servo Lintas Raya Meminimalisir Dampak Lingkungan

Muara Enim – PT Servo Lintas Raya (SLR), a coal logistics service company based in South Sumatra, continues to improve its operations. One of the most important efforts is minimizing the environmental impact of coal transportation routes, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming dry season and the associated dust disturbances originating from roads and the intermediate stockpile (IS) or coal storage area at kilometer 36.

Various measures have been implemented by Servo at IS 36, including regular area watering and the installation of dust filter walls (dust nets) at optimal locations to block dust from spreading into residential areas.

Addition of Dust Control Facilities

According to media sources, as the current measures have proven effective, SLR plans to continue building additional dust-filtering walls, as well as elevating and extending the existing dust protection nets at the stockpile. SLR also intends to add water gun facilities and rotating water sprinklers to keep the area moist.

Gradual Reduction of Coal Volume

In addition, a more strategic and fundamental decision has been made by SLR management: starting this year, the company will gradually reduce the amount of coal processed at Stockpile 36 by up to 50%.

According to Darwan Siregar, President Director of Titan Infra Energy Group, the parent company of SLR, efforts to reduce coal buildup, expand the dust nets, and install water guns are all aimed at significantly reducing the environmental impact.

“We will gradually reduce the coal volume there by up to 50%, in coordination with all IUP holders involved,” Darwan stated.

IS 36 Remains a Productive Asset

Despite these reductions, IS 36 will still function as a productive asset of the company.

This facility is equipped with a modern logistics information system, supporting infrastructure, and permanent structures such as a hopper and crusher.

All these components are essential to support SLR’s business continuity.

However, in support of environmental conservation efforts, the company is committed to reducing the use of the stockpile gradually, in parallel with increasing the efficiency of a more accurate and timely logistics system.

Response to Community Complaints

Darwan acknowledged that SLR’s efforts represent a positive response to the complaints of residents living near IS 36.

“The company is part of the economy, the environment, and the community that coexist side by side,” Darwan emphasized.

Prioritizing Local Workforce

He further stressed that in infrastructure development, maintenance, and company operations, SLR always prioritizes local labor and local companies, as consistently reported.

“The principle is ‘local jobs for local boys.’ We regularly present this to the regional and provincial DPRD (local parliaments) to show the composition of our workforce, and we are always open to positive feedback, because we all share the same spirit in this matter,” Darwan added.

Efficiency Through Modern Supply Chain Systems

Transporting coal without the need for stopovers and unloading at IS 36 will certainly be much more efficient for mining companies.

“It is time to implement a strict and timely supply chain system,” said the retired two-star general.

Challenges in the Coal Logistics Industry

Amid the recent steep decline in coal prices, business efficiency has become a key factor for sustainability.

For context, coal prices this year have dropped by 20.08% compared to last year’s average.

“The coal logistics industry is currently facing significant challenges, including government regulations such as the DHE, which requires 100% of export proceeds to be withheld for a year, the obligation to use benchmark prices, and the latest increase in royalty rates—all occurring amid declining coal prices that are expected to continue for the next few years,” explained Darwan.

Commitment to Sustainable Operations

With these various steps, SLR is expected to operate more efficiently in response to current conditions and to foster a sustainable business climate.

Darwan confirmed that the company will continue coordinating with stakeholders and regional leaders in Pali, Muara Enim, and Lahat Regencies to jointly maintain a conducive business environment for regional economic and community development.
